The area of Ihazofotsy in the Andohahela National Park was our goal for the first camp. We got a four-wheel-drive ute (Toyota Hilux – brandnew) to drive us there. The driver picked us up at the hotel which we were more than eager to leave… The hotel looked great when we arrived! Unfortunately it turned out not so good afterall. There was no water and with that obviously no toilet and the only water you could get was walking to the office and get a bucket. This all would have been just fine as we didn’t really await anything better than that, but in the end they suddenly wanted more money than they previously said. And surely we weren’t going to pay more for less. In any way we were glad to get out of there and into the bush. The driver picked Jaques, Tahiana, Oliver, Ole and me up in the morning. On the way out of Fort Dauphin we stopped at the market to by fresh food for the camp. Heaps of beans and rice and rice and beans…. And some more rice … and some more beans ^^ Of course we also bought onions, garlic, potatoes, tomatos and some other things. A funny experience was to try and buy cucumbers. A woman desperately tried to sell us her cucumbers even though we didn’t want them as they looked and felt extremly squishy and not fresh at all. We watched her put a lot of her cucumbers into a bag and then she went of to all different stands and stole cucumbers of them, which she placed on top of hers. Once she was finished she came back to us and tried to sell us the seemingly good cucumbers. Luckily we knew the bad ones were at the bottom and unpacked everything and told her that we are not willing to buy the squishy ones and that the good ones weren’t hers anyway. You always have to be very careful when they offer you something and have to watch them closely. Check out the photos. Isn’t it neat the way they always arrange the things they are trying to sell… for example the tomatoes.
