Walkabout in Tana

On the first day we just walked down the big stairs (I think I read somewhere on the Internet 166 very steep steps) which are already one big market and went walkabout in the city. There is so many people running around everywhere. People that are afraid of masses of people should never go to Tana as it is very crowded. All along the streets you have one stall next to the other. Some have their offerings placed neatly on tables, others on a blanket on the street and others just lay them on the ground. You can get anything from cheap Chinese plastic stuff, brand copies, watches, sunnies, school stuff, clothes, wood, old car parts, spices, veggies, fruits, meat and anything else you can imagine. It truly is amazing, there is hardly anything that you can't get. There was even a stand with heaps of magnifying glasses … I mean… what the heck do you need all those magnifying glasses for… anyway if he can make a living with it, good on him! At one of the meat stands I saw lungs for sale… yumm… if I had to eat that I would certainly become a vegetarian. Peggy another student from our university who is working in a different area of Madagascar actually ate oysters at one of the street stands. Raw Oysters… may I remind everyone that Tana is not even at the coast?!
